Privacy

Privacy by architecture.

Most apps ask you to trust a privacy policy. Mnemosyne is built so there’s far less to trust in the first place.

The app

Your manuscript lives on your computer, in your project folder. Mnemosyne needs no account to write, has no analytics, and never uploads your manuscript. Writing works fully offline. If something goes wrong, the app keeps a crash log on your own machine, written to leave your prose out. You can read every word of it, and it reaches us only if you choose to send it with “Report a problem.” Entity recognition, the linking that connects every mention of a character or place, runs entirely on your machine, using plain rules rather than a cloud model. If you clip a web page into your research notes, Mnemosyne fetches that page at your request.

And to be plain about the thing writers worry about most: the core of Mnemosyne is AI-free. It does not write, rewrite, or autocomplete your prose, and your words are never used to train any model. If we ever offer AI features, they will be optional add-ons, off unless you choose them. We used AI to help build the tool. The core app will never use it to write your story.

This website

This page is a plain static site. Its fonts are served from this domain, not a third-party font network, so simply loading it doesn’t announce your visit to anyone else. If you request an alpha invitation, the email address, and anything you choose to tell us about what you’re writing, is sent to Buttondown, the newsletter service we use to send invitations, solely so we can reach you about the alpha. Buttondown will email you once to confirm the address is yours. We don’t sell your address or share it with anyone else. Ordinary web-server logs may record requests, as they do for any site.
